Itinerary

When you arrive at Kathmandu airport, you will be welcomed by our team and drive you to your hotel. After you freshen up, your tour leader will give a briefing about the details of the trek. Enjoy your day exploring the places around. Stay overnight in a hotel.

The early morning flight from Kathmandu gives you the opportunity to have fantastic views of the hills, gorges, and the eastern Himalayas till we land in Tumlingtar. Upon arriving in Tumlingtar, you walk on the trail through the forest and descend through the farms before reaching Kumal Gaon, lies on the edge of a broad hill. We hike through the eastern bank of Arun River, crossing it on a bridge, which leads us to the settlement of Bheteni. We further walk to Chewabesi (250m) and stop here for lunch. We pass the sub-tropical forest, continue south along the east bank of Arun River through Chettri, Rai, and Brahmin villages before reaching the lively town of Kartike. Overnight in Kartike.

Walkthrough the meadows passing the bridge over Arun River, takes us to the tiny village of Baluwa Besi. The trail goes up into Sal forest and passes several villages before passing through rice terraces to reach Marduwa, a Rai village. The trail further goes along the Irkhuwa Khola through banana and rice farms to arrive in Gothe Bazaar. Overnight in Gothe.

We ascend through Sherpa and Rai villages and cross suspension bridges over Irkhuwa Khola to reach Dobane. We walk through the beautiful villages of Tendor and Tallo Phedi, and follow the trail through terraced fields and damp forest area following the south bank of Irkhuwa Khola. We further walk on a winding trail through the riverbed of Irkhuwa Khola to Phedi. Overnight in Phedi.

After breakfast, we climb along a small stream and pass through the dense forest, which will take us to the village of Thulo Fokte. Further, follow the stone path through the forest, taking occasional rests. Later, climb up towards the forest of birch, oak, and rhododendron to Bilbate. We walk for about 30 minutes from Bilbate before reaching Gurase. Overnight in Gurase. 

We begin our trek passing through lush rhododendron forest to Salpa Pokhari. Salpa Pokhari is a holy pond in Salpa Bhanjyang. A lot of Hindu pilgrims visit this place each year during the full moon of October. The area is surrounded by hemlock and fir trees and is abundant with various flora, fauna, and birds. Salpa Bhanjyang offers you glimpses of Makalu (8463m) and Chamlang (7321m). We move further to the area with loose stones and rhododendrons above Salpa Bhanjyang and then hike down to the mainstream. We then follow the path across the hillside and through the moist forest until we reach Sanam. Overnight in Sanam.

We walk through the forest of brown oaks, rhododendron, and chir pines towards the village of Sorung. About two hours of a hike from Shorung takes us to the Rai village of Gudel. We cross Hinku River on a steel suspension bridge, after which the trail descends through fields of rice, soybean, and millet to the village of Bung. We need our Makalu Barun Conservation Area entry permit to enter Bung. Overnight in Bung.

Today's trek starts walking down steeply through the cliff of a hill covered in wispy bamboo. We then pass Najindingma village and reach a clear area of savannah, used by the people from surrounding settlements as summer grazing of yaks. Walking for another one and the half-hour through damp forest takes us to Gaikharka. Here, you'll have fantastic views of green terraces and dispersed farmhouses. Overnight in Gaikharka.

After having breakfast, we start our trek descending through the edge and walk through many ups and downs across the ravines and old moraines. The trail then slowly descends and later ascends through the rhododendron and juniper forest and reach Vasme. From here, you can see Mera Peak (6476m) along with the glimpses of the Upper Khumbu region. Overnight in Vasme.

Leaving Vasme, we begin our trek passing through the rhododendron forest. A steep ascends through the forest leads us to the top of Panggoman La Pass (3174m), which offers amazing views of the snow-covered Kusum Kanguru (6367m), Mera Peak (6476m), Kangtega (6685m), and other peaks. Further, we descend through the ridge, which will take us to the beautiful Sherpa village of Panggom, our destination for today. You can explore Panggom village, visiting Paldiorken Choling Gompa and Hillary School. Overnight in Panggom.

We ascend through the lush forest of rhododendron and oak while heading towards the village of Paiya. A gradual ascend through the ridge lead us to the top of Kari La (3145m), which is a vantage point to view the beauty of Thamserku (6608m), Kusum Kanguru (6367m), and Kangtega (6685m). Moving onward, we descend gradually and cross a wooden bridge above Paiya Khola before reaching Paiya. Overnight in Paiya.

From Paiya, the trail passes gradually through the lush forest with mixed vegetation and reaches Chutok La (2945m). Then, we slowly descend to Surke, from where we ascend through Chheplung and Nurning to Phakding. During the hike, we pass many small monasteries and Mani walls before arriving at the small Sherpa village of Phakding. Phakding offers a fantastic view of Thamserku (6608m) and  Kusum Kangaru (6367m). Overnight in Phakding.

Leaving Phakding, we will cross the suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and climb down through rhododendron and pine forests to Lukla. We will see many Buddhist villages and their prayer flags along the way to Lukla. On reaching our destination, we celebrate our accomplishments together with the trekking team. Overnight in Lukla.

From Lukla, we fly back to Kathmandu with a fantastic view of the mountain from the plane. After we reach Kathmandu airport, we will drive you to the hotel where you can rest or enjoy going around shopping for your friends and family. As you will have a lot of time, you can go to the bars and clubs to get refreshed at night in Thamel before leaving for your home tomorrow.
